This past holiday season saw the Traction Community tackle its largest ever fundraising effort.
With hundreds of Syrian refugees currently resettling in BC (220 privately sponsored refugees in December), Traction wanted to do its part in helping a family start a new life in Canada. Partnering with the Immigrant Services Society of BC (ISSofBC), Traction set out to raise $27,000 in the month of December through our 2015 Holiday Giving Campaign. $27,000 is the estimated amount needed to support a family of four for one year; the money is used for housing, clothing, food, medical examinations, transportation to Canada and more.
With the tremendous support of Tractionites across North America as well as our extended community of customers, partners, family and friends, we were able to surpass our goal of $27,000 in just one month. Truly an amazing accomplishment! To demonstrate the awesome philanthropic commitment of the Traction community, here are a few stats collected on the fundraising effort (to date):
- Total raised: $27,490
- Average Gift Size: $106.55
- Largest Gift: $2,000
- # of Transactions: 167
- # of Unique Donors: 125
Traction and the ISSofBC are truly appreciative of the support received from our community and we know the Syrian family will be too. “ISSofBC is truly humbled by the outpouring of support from Traction in helping sponsor refugees to Canada. The funds Traction has raised will provide a refugee family of four a fresh start to a new life in Vancouver where they can learn, share and grow in the community. We look forward to welcoming the sponsored families with Traction and helping them resettle into their new homes.” – Chris Stephenson, ISSofBC.
Traction’s approach to philanthropy is two-fold – develop philanthropic thinking within the company by enabling Tractionites to support causes near and dear to the hearts of our community. Tractionites are encouraged to not only support amazing organizations in our midst, but to also commit to their own passions, such as teaching kids to code. In 2016, Traction will continue to be active in supporting organizations that are resettling refugees and we look forward to group meals, shared space and perhaps a few new Tractionites for our team!
Although Traction’s matching fund has been fully used, we encourage you to continue to donate to this worthy cause. You can continue to do so here.
