Bandit 2016: once a bandit, always a bandit

October 07, 2016By

And just like that, the Bandit Tour is over for another year. As the Traction Bandits packed up to head home, we passed the baton to another group of colleagues from Traction on Demand who had just landed for a busy week at Dreamforce, Salesforce’s massive annual cloud technology conference. But before we head back into the busy-ness of our everyday lives, a quick recap of the past couple of days: After arriving in San Francisco, and settling into our headquarters for the week at Swig whiskey bar, we were right back to meeting with local non-profits including the Representation Project, La Cocina, the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, Conservacion Patagonia and Selamta Family Project.

The Airstream trailer served as a mobile office to meet non-profits in.

Zoe Cremin, a strategic solutions analyst at Traction, worked with the Silicon Valley Education Foundation to improve their data security model and go over security best practices. “It’s a chance to give back and work with people that I would never work with otherwise. It’s great to see the diversity of non-profit organizations out there and others ‘doing good,’”she says. Our non-profit initiative continued with our Bandit wrap-up and Dreamforce kick-off party. Close to 200 people enjoyed creative whiskey drinks while having a chance to meet our Traction for Good team in person. It’s hard to believe that it’s been just one week for us Bandits. Like life at summer camp, it feels much longer than that. Were there some of us that hardly knew each other before we got started? We have now seen each other at our most vulnerable, including in our pajamas and asleep, and for that we are closer and ever grateful for the experience.

As we wrapped things up, I couldn’t help but think of one of the ultimate bonding movies – The Breakfast Club – about a group of seemingly random people coming together to find out that they’re not so different after all. The film ends with a letter, which I’ve put a Bandit twist on here: Dear reader, The fact is we drove for a whole week to support non-profit organizations to do good, but it’s crazy to sum up the whole experience in one blog post telling you who we think we are. You may see us as you want to see us... in the simplest terms and the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a leader... and a problem solver... and a listener... a storyteller... and a do-gooder. Does that satisfy your curiosity? Sincerely yours,
